What is PUT?
The Power Up! Tutorial (PUT) is a unique oral communication course that gives students opportunities for real communication with native English speakers. One important goal of the PUT course is to increase students’ confidence by giving them the opportunity to practice and improve their oral communication skills.

How does Power Up! Tutorial work?

Topic Introduction:

Students are given a set topic each week to talk about. From the textbook, they are given key vocabulary words, questions, and conversation strategies to help them think about this topic.

Making a card:

Students make a conversation card for class with the key words they need to talk about that topic.

Recursive Practice:

In conversation groups students have conversations with two other students and a native English speaker. The students change conversation groups two times per class.

Recording:

A couple times each semester students record their conversations.

Follow-ups:

Students listen to their recordings, transcribe them and look for ways they could improve.

Self-evaluation:

Students evaluate their use of English, from grammar to conversation strategies.

Correction and Advice:

This comes continually from the tutors in the PUT class.
